Buckcherry are an American rock n roll band that solidified their place in rock history with anthems about sex, drugs, and rock n roll. The band’s debut release was a powerhouse record filled with chunky power chords, gritty vocals, and a ridiculous amount of attitude. The 2nd Buckcherry record showed musical development and growth in the bands writing.
There was an extended hiatus from 2002 - 2005 which allowed singer Josh Todd the opportunity to release a solo record and by the time 2006 rolled around the core of Buckcherry, Josh Todd and Keith Nelson, decided to reform the band and released their most successful record to date, “15”.
“15” spawn the hit singles “Crazy Bitch” and “Sorry”. “Sorry” is the bands only Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit and helped the band earn a wide fanbase with cross over success.
Buckcherry are currently on tour promoting their “Rock N Roll” record as well as celebrating the 20th anniversary of the “15” record.
Nonpoint served as a worthy opener for this show and their set was part hard rock, part nu-metal. I was not impressed with the bands overall sound mix because they suffered from opening band syndrome; they came off a tad muddy sounding no matter where you stood. Nonpoint played a solid 45 minute set and the crowd clearly enjoyed it.
Buckcherry’s stage was low key; a large backdrop with the bands “Rock N Roll” record cover adorned the back of the stage while Xavier’s drum kit was dead center. Keith Nelson rocked the left side of the stage with a random selection of vintage amps behind him; Stevie D held down the right side of the stage; Bassist Kelly Lemieux and singer Josh Todd moved constantly throughout the show!
Sound wise, Buckcherry sounded excellent and their guitar tone was just like their records; thick and chunky.
“Lit Up” kicked off the show and It’s always a risky move for a band to open with one of their biggest hits. “Broken Glass” was next and it kept the pace rockin’ strong.
“Dirty Mind” off the first record was a nice surprise to the set list and “Out of Line” was a nice addition to the set as well.
“Sorry” and “Crazy Bitch” closed out the first set and they gave the crowd a 2 song encore. The entire show was wrapped up just before 11 PM and Josh told the crowd that immediately after their set the entire band would be at the merch table selling and signing records and dicks. The dick reference was a nod to the fact that they sell a Buckcherry “Crazy Bitch” dildo at their shows.
